Indoor exhibits, including an interactive computer kiosk, focus on marine mammal life history and distribution. Two interns will be working at the Center staggered shifts for seven days out a week where

Manage operations, sales and petty cash; Interpret Alaska marine mammal information for Center visitors and public; Assist and help coordinate where possible with researchers using center; Prepare/deliver Alaska marine mammal presentations to visitors and small groups; Facilitate community outreach and public education of Alaska marine mammals. Project Duration: Two 8-10 week Intern positions are available beginning mid-June through August 31st. Contenido: Se hace pública la convocatoria correspondiente al año 2009 de concesión de ayudas del Programa Nacional de Contratación e Incorporación de Recursos Humanos de Investigación, en el marco del Plan Nacional de Investigación Científica, Desarrollo e Innovación 2008-2011. Entre otras convocatorias, se definen las correspondientes a los Subprogramas Ramón y Cajal y Juan de la Cierva.
Este subprograma va dirigido a la contratación de jóvenes doctores, prestando una atención especial al colectivo de investigadores que han obtenido su título de doctor recientemente, con el objeto de que puedan incorporarse a equipos de investigación para su fortalecimiento.
Los investigadores que sean doctores deben cumplir el requisito de que la obtención del doctorado no haya sido en fecha anterior al día uno de septiembre de 2005. Si no poseen el título de doctor, se admite como fecha límite para obtenerlo hasta la fecha de publicación de la resolución de concesión en la página web del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación. En el enlace siguiente se puede encontrar información más detallada.
Las solicitudes de participación son presentadas por el Centro de I+D y en ellas incluirán a los investigadores candidatos para su incorporación a los equipos de investigación. No obstante, los investigadores tienen también que cumplimentar la parte de la solicitud correspondiente (Acuerdo de
Incorporación) y enviar el documento que se genere, una vez firmado, al Centro de I+D.
Por tanto, si hay investigadores candidatos, el responsable del equipo investigador al que eventualmente se incorporaría el candidato deberá informar al Coordinador Científico-Técnico (con copia al Director de su Centro) por esta vía antes del 17 de febrero, ya que el plazo para presentar las solicitudes finaliza el 24 de febrero.

The applicant will join a broad-based team of researchers in oceanography, who analyze spaceborne and complementary in-situ observations, carry out ocean modeling and data assimilation, support existing ocean satellite missions and help develop new remote sensing techniques for future satellite oceanography missions.
The successful applicant should have a Ph.D. degree plus 8+ years of research experience in the field of satellite oceanography and ocean remote sensing, as evidenced by a significant record of peer-reviewed publications and funded research proposals. Emphasis will be on remote sensing of sea surface height, salinity, temperature, vector winds, color and marine gravimetry. Experience developing satellite data retrieval algorithms, instruments, methods for data analysis or sensor calibration and validation, and in the design of satellite missions are desirable. The incumbent will analyze and interpret data from an array of instruments, and participate in establishing the science foundation and requirements for future satellite oceanography missions. Contenido: The Nature Conservancy a leading conservation organization working around the world to protect ecologically important lands and waters for nature and people seeks a Chaco Environmental Coordinator. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Chaco Environmental Coordinator provides technical and policy leadership to TNC and partners to increase the area under effective conservation in the Chaco ecoregion. The main objective of the Chaco Coordinator is to increase the acreage of public protected areas (national, provincial, municipal) and consolidating existing ones. The candidate may also be required to provide support to indigenous communities to improve the management of indigenous lands. We are looking for a candidate that is capable of working with non-traditional approaches to conservation such as designing and improving financial and legal instruments aimed to achieve conservation at scale and establish private-public partnerships for the creation and management of protected areas. The candidate is expected to coordinate the implementation of the Regional Public Goods (RPG) project that is being implemented by a consortium of partners in Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina. S/he will be responsible for the overall implementation of WWF monitoring plan for the Amazon Headwaters Initiative (AHI). While the AHI M&E coordinators and project teams in each country will be responsible for the implementation of monitoring in each AHI site, the Tri-National M&E Officer will work closely with WWF field teams to support them in the process, ensuring that: the teams have the technical assistance required; monitoring gets done in a timely manner; it is effectively articulated across sites; and the monitoring data is used by the teams to learn and adapt AHI interventions for maximum effectiveness.
Basic Requirements:
Master’s degree in related subject (e.g., biological sciences, social sciences, resource management, program evaluation). Experience on conservation/sustainable development project/program/portfolio management, and project design, monitoring and/or evaluation in particular (at least 5-7 years). Proficiency in Adaptive Management, Monitoring expertise, Coordination skills and experience working in the Amazon (preferred). Complete fluency in either Spanish and/or Portuguese and English required. Frequent travel. This position will be based in Bolivia or Peru and is a local hire.

The Marine and Fisheries Agency is an Executive Agency of Defra and provides the service delivery, inspection and enforcement activities provided by the Government to the fishing industry, those engaged on construction works and dredging at sea and other marine stakeholders in England and Wales.
The MFA is responsible for licensing a range of marine construction projects from small leisure schemes and coast defence works through to major new renewable energy and port developments of national importance.
To ensure that developments are undertaken in a sustainable manner, applications are thoroughly assessed. Where licences are issued these include suitable conditions to protect the marine environment and reduce interference to other users of the sea. This frequently involves discussions with marine developers and port authorities as well as the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), Natural England, the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), the Environment Agency (EA), the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) and a range of other advisors and interested parties.
The MFA relies upon scientific advice from key advisory bodies but also needs to own its decision. The Marine Scientist will therefore be responsible for providing up-to-date scientific advice to inform the decisions made by the marine environment licensing team, particularly where there may be a difference of opinion between the applicant and key advisors.
More broadly, the post holder will be responsible for strengthening the challenge function of the licensing team. This will include, developing strong relationships with independent specialist advisors, and improving the overall scientific capacity of licensing team members.
The post holder will also be expected to represent the MFA at a range of scientific meetings, and to work with Defra to develop a robust research programme to support the MFA's licence decisions.

Contenido: The primary aim is to develop existing marine ecosystem models, furthering research into response to climate change, ocean acidification and modification of direct anthropogenic pressures such as nutrient modification and fishing. Research will involve creating multi-decadal hind-cast simulations of regional ecosystems, forming the basis for multi-decadal forecasts with which a number of scenarios can be assessed.
PML has a well developed system of coupled hydrodynamic marine ecosystem models based on ERSEM, POLCOMS and NEMO. The research focus is the NW European Continental Shelf, but we will be incorporating both Atlantic basin scale and possibly global capabilities over the next few years.
The preferred level of appointment for this post is at Scientist grade (starting on £26319 pa) requiring a PhD or equivalent experience. We are however open to appointing at Junior Scientist grade (starting on £19737 pa) for which we would require a good relevant MSc degree or equivalent experience.

Crescenticsandbars are approximately shore-parallel ridges of sand that show remarkablealongshore-periodic undulations in their height and cross-shore position. Thesefeatures are often associated with similar rhythmicities in onshore morphology,which can lead to localized, severe beach and dune erosion, and disappear duringhigh-energy wave events. operativo basado en un riguroso estudio estadístico de monitoreo costero en la Zona de Galapagos.
II. ACTIVIDADES ESENCIALES
Desarrollar un plan operativo de trabajo buscando brindar asesoría y trabajo
técnico al Parque Nacional Galapagos, Científicos Visitantes y personal de la FCD
para implementar métodos eficaces de monitoreo y manejo costero.
Desarrollar e implementar un riguroso estudio estadístico de monitoreo de la zona
costera de Galapagos.
Establecer nuevas técnicas de monitoreo que permitan la detección y variación de
las poblaciones y los organismos costeros.
Desarrollar y mantener bases de datos, documentos, protocolos , así como los
presentes resultados de investigaciones.
Esta es una posición de largo plazo en la FCD. El período inicial del contrato es de dos años
renovables de acuerdo a disponibilidad de fondos. El rango salarial ofrecido está entre $24.000
a $29.000 por año, remuneración libre de impuestos ecuatorianos. La posición está basada en
Puerto Ayora, Isla Santa Cruz - Galápagos. Los beneficios incluyen seguro médico privado y 22
días de vacaciones anuales.

Contenido: The Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO) and its partner, the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR), announce the Fellowship Programme for 2008.
This programme is designed to promote training and capacity building leading towards a
global observation scheme for the oceans.
This fellowship program is open to scientists, technicians, graduate students (PhD) and Post Doctoral Fellows involved in oceanographic work at centres in developing countries and
countries with economies in transition.
It offers the opportunity to visit other oceanographic centres for a short period (1 to 3 months) for training on any aspect of oceanographic observations, analyses, and interpretation.
Priority will be given this year to applications that deal with any of the following topics:
* Argo Floats
* Fixed-Point Time-Series Observations
* Large-scale, Operational Biological Observations including Biodiversity
* Emerging Technologies for Ocean Observations
* Data management
* Coastal observations/ Coastal Zone Management
* Ocean and coastal modelling
Terms:
1. The fellowship will provide international airfare and subsistence allowance for the
fellowship period (the actual amount will be tailored to meet local conditions, but will
not exceed US $ 1,300 per month).
2. The trainee’s institute will bear all expenses incurred by the fellow in his/her own nation (domestic travel, visa costs, etc.), and the host institute will waive any bench
fees that they may normally charge trainees.
3. POGO does not cover any of the expenses related to the training itself.

The aim of the project is to undertake a 3D numerical simulation of the Neptune wave energy converter using a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package in order to provide design guidance for the construction of a large scale device.The Neptune device sits on the sea bed and is fully submerged. It consists of an annular U shaped duct open to the sea at the centre, surrounding an annular reservoir covered by an enclosed air space and uses the resulting oscillating water column to drive a turbine.The appointee will work with Clive Mingham and Professor Derek Causon.The successful candidate will a strong background in CFD involving water waves and fluid/structure interaction.The position is available for 12 months at a salary of up to GBP 23,877.
