El Programa de Liderazgo en Medio Ambiente (ELP) del Colegio de Recursos Naturales, Universidad de California en Berkeley, solicita candidatos para el curso de certificado en Manejo Sostenible del Medio Ambiente.
El “ELP” vincula los retos complejos que enfrentan los profesionales e activistas trabajando en el campo de protección del medioambiente y fortalecimiento de medios de subsistencia sostenibles, con los recursos académicos interdisciplinarios en Berkeley. El componente clave del Programa es un curso intensivo de tres semanas llevado a cabo en la Universidad de California en Berkeley. El curso combina capacitación en protección del medio ambiente rural e urbano, conservación de recursos naturales, combate de la pobreza con estrategias integradas y liderazgo en manejo de conflicto y cambio social. Los egresados son miembros de una activa red internacional: ELP Berkeley Alumni Network, la cual promueve un aprendizaje y conexión continuo entre los egresados después del curso, igual que acceso a fondos pequeños para apoyar proyectos colaborativos en medioambiente y desarrollo sostenible.
Cada verano 40 profesionales participan en el curso en representación de ONGs locales e internacionales, la academia, ministerios y agencias de gobierno, la ONU y el sector privado. Se ofrecen un número limitado de becas parciales. No hay suficientes fondos para ofrecer becas completas. La fecha límite para recibir aplicaciones completas es el 1 de febrero, 2009.

The theme of the course draws upon the conduct of maritime affairs in line with the Lisbon Strategy, targeting the
Millennium Development Goals and building upon a holistic and integrated maritime policy following the principles
enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. It focuses on the linkages between the natural, social
and economic sciences and the development of sustainable ocean governance, and on the research-management
interface that can render governance operable. The Course stresses the inter-linkages of multi-disciplinary inputs and
the support of technology to enable the effective achievement of ocean management and sustainable development.
The emphasis of the course is on the implications of the EU maritime policy for the European regional seas and the
practical implementation that takes into account the particularities of seas as different and sensitive as the
Mediterranean, Black, Baltic and Caspian Seas. The EU maritime policy and the coherence of policies of neighbouring
states with it are investigated in depth as basis for regional cooperation. The course aims to build stronger coherence
between the EU and its acceding countries and their neighbours in their engagement in the governance of the regional
seas, promoting inter-regional comparisons, shared experiences and exchange of best practice scenarios, and fostering
interaction between participants from European, Eastern European, North African and Middle East countries bordering
the Mediterranean. The course consists of 4 modules, presented over a five-week period. deadline for applications is the 15 September 2008.

El curso de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (UPV) pretende ampliar los conocimientos técnicos de los profesionales que trabajan en la gestión de las playas, tanto desde el punto de vista de su planificación y ordenación, como desde la perspectiva de la implantación y mantenimiento de sus infraestructuras. Además, se profundiza en los diversos sistemas de gestión de la calidad y del medio ambiente aplicables, analizando su aplicabilidad, ventajas e inconvenientes.

Gliders are becoming key platforms for ocean observations. Their endurance
and controllability at sea provides new autonomous and cost-effective
capabilities to get oceanographic data in a sustained and continuous way.
They also bring new challenges in robotics and engineering for applications
in Rapid Environmental Assessment, Marine mammals risk mitigation, acoustics
and underwater communications.
The 3rd EGO workshop is a discussion forum where to share experience
concerning gliders and their operational use. These aspects involve, among
others, mission planning, data processing, glider data assimilation, glider
networking and engineering. The Glider School provides an invaluable
opportunity to be trained on glider operations. The School will include
scientific presentations and theoretical courses followed by field works
with SLOCUM and SPRAY gliders.

Conferencia Virtual: "Recursos naturales de la costa marina de Buenos Aires: Problemas, tendencias y soluciones propuestas"

El evento se transmitirá a través de Aqua Campus a las 16:00 hs. hora Europea.
El objetivo de la conferencia es discutir la tendencia del manejo de recursos costeros que históricamente predomina en Argentina; en donde se analizara el origen de los problemas de manejo de la costa bonaerense, exponiendo posibles causas y dejando así explícitas algunas de las necesidades actuales que, de ser satisfechas, podrían hacer efectivo un manejo sustentable, adaptativo e integral. Asimismo, se presentaran los resultados más importantes de las recientes investigaciones del Grupo de Trabajo para la Conservación de las Costas, del Proyecto Costas Bonaerenses, exponiendo las metas del mismo y sus recomendaciones en casos reales de manejo.
La conferencia esta orientada a profesionales, estudiantes y publico en general interesado en la gestión de los recursos costeros.La participación en la conferencia virtual es gratuita.

DANCORE (the Danish Network for Coastal Research) will host an international seminar at the Brorfelde Observatory which is situated in the central part of Zealand, Denmark.
The seminar, which is aimed at young researchers and professionals, will focus on Danish and other European researchers’ experience with invasive species both within flora and fauna. Cases, both within and outside Europe, will be presented focussing on the dissemination of knowledge and networking of young researchers and professionals.
A tentative programme will be ready by the end of June.
If you are among the youngsters, then register for the YPEP seminar at Brorfelde. If you are not, then think of some of your younger colleagues, who might benefit from participating in ENCORA´s exchange programme.
The seminar is subsidized by DANCORE and the fee is consequently DKK 500 (EUR 70 + transfer fee). This covers lectures, food and accommodation. Please note that membership of
your national coastal network is a prerequisite for participation. The maximum number of participants is 30 and the deadline for pre-registration is 30 June 2008.

The Cambridge Centre for Landscape and People (CCLP) is launching this year the Course Series with Co@st:
The international interdisciplinary intensive course on natural and cultural values of coastal zones offers a novel approach to the analysis, evaluation, mapping, planning and management of world coastlines with the view to preserving their natural and cultural values, including their landscapes, beauty, ecosystems and services.
Conservation of natural and cultural heritage in coastal areas requires a holistic interdisciplinary approach able to provide prevention of, and responses to, natural and human hazards. The course embraces this concept with innovative methods, tools and measures which can foster both sustainable development and biocultural conservation.
Researchers, professionals, governmental and NGO officers who are engaged in the study, assessment, planning, management and policy making of coastal zones are invited to participate in this interdisciplinary certified course. Contributions and outcomes will be selected for scientific publication.
